Trying to get a hold of the new Sony models this year has been like ordering a Big Mac at Burger King. It felt like we would never get it. Low and behold, recently a few of these models were made available to us, albeit at very limited quantities. Nevertheless, we jumped at the chance of getting them and couldn’t wait to install them in a car.

To kick things off, just a couple of days of announcing we had them, a customer called up and dropped by on the very same day to get it installed. We were thrilled as it was to install it on one of our favourite cars, the Perodua Myvi.

This install went just as planned as we have done this type of install numerous times. When replacing the head unit on the stock Perodua Myvi ICON, you need 3 additional things. The Perodua Myvi ICON dash kit, Perodua (Toyota) stereo harness adapter, side spacers and the steering wheel control harness adapter.

The Sony XAV-AX5500 was just as we expected. Quick, beautiful screen, smooth interface, great sound and overall a very nice experience. We really love this unit, just as much as we did the previous XAV-AX5000. The best part of the newer model would be the Weblink Cast, which allows for Youtube on the head unit now. I’m sure many will appreciate this.
