Recently Kenwood has released its latest flagship DDX916WS and DNX8160S models which supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Exciting times people. Hey, but where is DDX9106S? We’re hoping Kenwood will release it soon.

So, for those who don’t already know what Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is about. In a nutshell, it extends the use of your smartphone into your car safely. Anything that Google or Apple deems unsafe will not be usable or available while on Android Auto or CarPlay.

It does allow you to use a number of the common features of your smartphone in your car such as:

  • Making and receiving calls
  • Using map navigation
  • Receiving and sending texts
  • Listening to your favorite music app such as Spotify, iTunes and others
  • Listening to podcasts or audiobooks
  • Voice recognition

A couple of things to note is device support. Android Auto only supports devices that run Lollipop 5.0 and higher. CarPlay will require iPhone 5 upwards.
