The owner of this Perodua Myvi G3 came to us late last year to replace his head unit to the Kenwood DMX5023S. Once done he was satisfied with everything and said he will be back for some audio upgrades.
True to his word, about 6 months later, he came back to us with the request to upgrade his sound system. He had a budget in mind which is a good thing. After understanding his expectations on the upgrade, we decided on a pair of good component speakers and an active subwoofer. All in we stuck pretty close to his budget, just a tad over.
The speakers we opted for are the Blaupunkt GTX 1652 C23. This speakers are relatively new to the market so not many are aware of how good it really is. Rated at 30W RMS, these speakers do not require an amplifier. However, given that the sensitivity is at 88dB, we do recommend a good head unit to drive it. Most aftermarket head units will have no trouble in this area.
For the active subwoofer, we opted for the Blaupunkt GTR 8110A. One of the main reasons for not going for the larger 10 inch model is that the Perodua Myvi has limited space under the seat . Typically 8″ active subwoofers with a modest footprint would be able to fit. The GTR 8110 A delivers excellent low end bass performance. The sound is smooth and deep and not harsh as some of the cheaper models available in the market. However, don’t go expecting to rattle your car as these active subwoofers are only good enough in giving you that low end feel but not to the point of shaking your rear view mirrors. For music listening pleasure, this would be enough for most people.
The upgrades we did on this Perodua Myvi is what we typically recommend to most customers. We call it the audio upgrade trifecta. Head unit, front speakers and subwoofer. These would make such an improvement in most cars. Of course there are many other things like sound proofing, DSP, amplifiers that would also be great, but think of the trifecta as the most basic upgrade that is also the biggest bang for the buck.
