The owner of this Peugeot 208 dropped by our shop looking to upgrade her sound system and also add some modern functionality to her car. As usual we start of with some consultation. This is important to us so that we can understand the needs of the customer. From our conversation, I managed to sum up that she wanted a rear camera for parking assistance, Apple CarPlay and also overall a better sound system. Found out she is used to her Pioneer sound system at home and has some expectations for the musical enjoyment.

Over the coming days, we came up with a list of items that we though would suit her needs. A little back and forth and we managed to come up with a list of things to be done that is within her budget. Thankfully she had quite a generous budget so we were able to install some very nice equipment for her. She also put her trust in us to select the appropriate equipment which we appreciate very much. Every single item installed is something we have confidence and experience with.

First off it was a no brainer to go with the Teyes CC3 Android head unit. This is mainly due to the fact that there is a fitting kit for it in the market along with Canbus interface. This would allow for the new head unit to retain all of the integrated functions with ease. Trying to fit anything else would mean having to import parts from overseas which we weren’t too keen about.

We paired the head unit with the Blaupunkt AHDC TY 1.0 parking camera. The beauty of this particular camera is that it is well built, clear even at night and also fits flush as if the car came with it.

Next up were the speakers. We opted for the Kenwood KFC-XS1704 Hi Resolution certified speakers. These speakers are one of the cheapest Hires speakers available in the market. Many miss this when looking for upgrades and we don’t get it. These speakers offer excellent high end clarity and can handle even the more than typical speakers can. Really overlooked by most.

For the rear speakers, we just went for a decent pair of coaxial speakers. The need for Hires at the rear is not a must in out opinion as we mostly focus on tuning the front. For the speaker install we also did soundproofing treatment for both the front and rear doors. This really helps with the overall audio performance be it reducing noise and vibrations and also keeping the surroundings more sturdy to handle a higher output from the speakers.

The final touch on this project is the Pioneer TS-WX400DA active subwoofer. Given that we have ample space under the seat, we opted for this particular active subwoofer as not only is it able to deliver a high power output, but the characteristics of the down-firing design also may trick most to think we have a box in the trunk. Its that good, really.

Overall we are very satisfied with the install and it seems the owner of this Peugeot is too, we hope. Thankfully working on this car is not as hard as we expected given all the challenges we typically face with European makes. For owners of this particular model we would say go ahead and do it!
